East Urban Building is not only a Gallery space for up & coming artists but the home to a Colombian coffee shop and bakery, as well as a Latinamerican eatery, African clothing, advertising company & more.
Moroccan Photographer, Othmane Zolati, who travelled around Africa for 1200 days ends in Cape Town to showcase his collection of photos at Cafe Colombia in the East Urban Building on the 5th of July.
Othmane Zolati, a 23 year-old African adventurer, filmmaker, photographer and blogger. He just finished his journey through 24 countries in Africa by reaching the four corners of the continent on foot, bicycle and skateboard. He wants to share the story of how he achieved his dream of visiting as many countries as possible by making a documentary film. Through this, his hope is to inspire others to chase their wildest dreams and to change their perception of Africa by showing what is rarely seen, the beauty, diversity, hospitality and humanity of this continent.
About the Exhibition
"This is an invitation to travel to the spirit of Africa, to take a deep breath and accept our differences. This is an opportunity to both understand and respect each other’s cultures while at the same time to be absorbed within these stories". These images share their cast of characters with the audience through the eyes of this young Moroccan photographer. The gallery is a way for one to view others’ traditions, to transcend physical boundaries, to understand and accept these differences while realising similarities. The final conclusion is that we are all very unique. These pictures tell the story of one adventurer’s searching for the often neglected meaning of that other Africa. This is the Africa he has experienced and has come to love." - Othmane Zolati
