Featuring Felipe Brosou
Felipe Brosou is an Argentinean born painter that’s based in Cape Town, South Africa. Having moved to Cape Town when he was 10 years old, this sparked an interest in not only South Africa’s culture and politics but also he’s own country’s culture, and finding a midway point in which to position himself between the two.
His interest for painting sparked in his early High School years and has been chasing this obsession ever since. He is particularly interested in the human form, where he can manipulate the very flesh of his subjects using paint, where as this creates an other layer upon which he’s able to add meaning to the work.
His work tackles a number of different topics, from past lived experiences that have arisen from the cultural shift he experienced at a very young age, as well as topics such as white masculinity and cultural appropriation.
He’s currently studying contemporary art at the Cape Town Creative Academy, where he hopes to grow he’s understanding and meaning of painting in his own practice.
