The Architect Gallery draws upon a wealth of knowledge and experience to inform carefully curated selection of exhibitions that serves to stimulate dialogue around the future of the built environment.
A Photographic Exhibition by the late photographer, TOM BURGERS.
These images of the CEDERBERG, captured from 1958 to 1967, were first exhibited in 1985 in protest of the growing tourist industry which was threatening the untouched beauty of the area. This exhibition is the last body of work overseen by the photographer before his passing at the end of 2017.
KAROO PASTORAL, a photographic essay – “A love poem to the area in all its changeable, stark beauty and the richly varied people who lived and live there” was published in 2010. Tom Burgers’ journey with the Karoo started in 1956 and continued right up until the date of publishing. Living and working in the Karoo allowed him to truly capture the essence of the landscape. His appreciation for the area is felt in his work, which showcases the natural beauty of the Karoo and the harsh realities of its existence. This exhibition is imbued with even more meaning given the threats posed to the Karoo today.
Limited copies of the book will be available in English and Afrikaans at the Hout Street Gallery.
This exhibition runs from 7 June to 22 June 2018.
