The Old Granary Building currently hosts an exhibition from the ongoing Hemmelliggaam project by Tommaso Fiscaletti and Nic Grobler.
Hemelliggaam (Afrikaans: Heavenly Body) or The Attempt To Be Here Now, is a visual exploration of the existential aspects of the human-environment-astronomy relationship.
By Tommaso Fiscaletti and Nic Grobler
After almost five years working on ‘Hemelliggaam Or The Attempt To Be Here Now’, a visual archive of photographs, video and installations, the two artists presents a new selection of work from the project to commemorate 200 years of the first permanent modern observatory in Africa.
The Mirror is a physical exhibition (Indoor-Outdoor) as well as a virtual one, where images, video text and sounds are overlapping to generate new meanings. Both settings aim to explore the existential contents of ‘Hemelliggaam Or the Attempt To Be Here Now’, moving between science and fiction, reality and vision - pushing the boundaries of the archive.
