SMITH is proud to present Rendezvous II, the second instalment of our annual Summer exhibition. The exhibition features the works of 24 artists, including some represented by SMITH and a few new faces. The work presented is wide-ranging including painting, sculpture, light work, photography, drawing and textile arts.
The show brings to a close SMITH’s 5th year of operation. Highlights include successful presentations at Investec Cape Town Art Fair, FNB Art Joburg and a sold-out solo exhibition of Michaela Younge’s work at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London. Katharien de Villiers’ inclusion in the Zeitz MOCAA exhibition Still Here Tomorrow to High Five You Yesterday and Sitaara Stodel’s solo exhibition, Unsettled, at the Investec Cape Town Art fair were further highlights.
Rendezvous II features the works of Stephen Allwright, Grace Cross, Katharien de Villiers, Claire Johnson, Dale Lawrence, Michael Linders, Elsabé Milandri, Selloane Moeti, Nabeeha Mohamed, Gitte Möller, Thandiwe Msebenzi, Sethembile Msezane, Rosie Mudge, Qaqambile Bead Studio, Gabrielle Raaff, Talia Ramkilawan, Tiago Rodrigues, Amy Rusch, Brett Charles Seiler, Sitaara Stodel, Marsi van de Heuvel, Anna van der Ploeg, Michaela Younge and Lulama Wolf.
“Rendezvous II is a celebration of all that was achieved in 2019, and looks towards 2020 with renewed energy and a sense of optimism. Artists were asked to contribute a work that represents the best of their current practice. This is the place to see what is fresh and what the future of South African artmaking holds,“ says curator Jana Terblanche.
Rendezvous II opens on 5 December, 2019 at 17:30 and will run until 11 January 2020.
