Join Suzanne Leighton for her first solo exhibition of oil paintings at 6 Spin Street.
Painting has been a means of self-discovery for Suzanne Leighton, leading to freedom of sorts, as she has expressed herself by using light, colour, shape and form on the blank canvas.
“These paintings are of some of the amazing places I have been to recently but they they’re not just a collection of landscape paintings – in hindsight they were a journey through the elements of earth, water, air and fire.
There is also a colour progression moving from greens and blues, through the water colours into the ochre and then the richer earthy colours and finally into the intense reds and oranges of the sun or fire. The fire also representing the spirit in the self portrait.”
Suzanne's interest is in the effect of colour on the human body and how it can change one’s mood and have an uplifting or calming effect. Some go further and say it has an effect on different organs and restores balance and creates healing. Rudolf Steiner talks about the energy levels and different matter moving from mineral to plant to animal and finally humans and parallels the four elements – earth, water, air and fire.
“The theme of the elements in my painting seems to parallel this philosophy, which is another reason I came to the name of the exhibition “My Philosophy of Freedom”, referring to one of Steiner’s major works “The Philosophy of Freedom”, so relevant in my life as the journey towards individuation.”
Join on First Thursday from 17:00 to 21:00
There will be two walkabouts led by the artist. Saturday 12 October at 11:00 and Wednesday 16 October at 11:00. The exhibition runs until 26 October.
