The Artists Gallery is an artist-run exhibition space, established in 2023 to showcase the diversity of paintings, sculptures, and multimedia pieces by its community.
The gallery also presents the very first artwork for 2025 by Sarah Danes Jarrett. The artist has always painted people, especially faces. Sarah loves the translucency and reflection of the skin, and confrontational eyes that narrate a story she cannot put into words. She uses colours that bear no similarity to the skin.
This vibrant beaded artwork is a collision of pop culture, art history, and luxury, drawing on iconic references to craft a playful yet thought-provoking narrative. The figure of Dagobert Duck (Scrooge McDuck) diving into a pool of gold symbolizes the endless pursuit of wealth, a theme reminiscent of Andy Warhol's commentary on consumerism and mass production. The bold use of primary colours and geometric structures nods to Piet Mondrian's abstract compositions, grounding the piece in a framework of artistic modernism.
'Little Dreamer' by Maureen Visagé, is a formidable and enchanting life-sized sculpture that is a testament to Maureen’s diverse inspirations and exceptional artistry. The piece features a young girl serenely blowing bubbles, each a symbol of dreams and innocence. This sculpture’s intricate details invite viewers to engage with its charm. The girl’s gentle expression and playful pose embody the essence of childhood, while the light and reflection playing in the shiny gold bubble evoke a sense of wonder. 'Little Dreamer' encourages reflection on our dreams and aspirations. In a fast-paced world overshadowed by pragmatism and routine, this enchanting figure reminds us to slow down, embrace our inner child, and nurture our creativity.
