proto~ is interface – a site for exchange between different creative disciplines.
Conceived in the heart of the East City, proto~ opens its doors at A4 Arts Foundation. The concept store examines propositions, off-cuts, fragments, and false starts to curate a specialised collection of witty and innovative works.
Curious compositions connect unlikely audiences and explore the conflation of art and design, studio and shop, street and gallery, object and process.
The product offering is split into three categories. The special collection at proto~ features a collaboration with artists and creatives from various disciplines. Paul Edmonds creates a series of small sculptures from off-cuts around his studio. David Brits provides maquettes of his new sculptural work ‘Ouroboros’. Eva Maria Shuman’s ceramic pieces leave the coiled clay visible in her work. Dada Khanyisa, Jared Ginsburg, Lyll Sprong and Jade Paton feature in the collection’s first iteration.
A specialist art book selection offers bookworms a cache of critical reads such as Claire Bishop’s Radical Museology, and illustrative books about international and regional creative practitioners Ren Hang, David Goldblatt, Yayoi Kusama and more.
Bonolo Kavula will be performing stand up comedy as well as launching her new zine. The performance starts at 7 pm.
